About Berlin

Berlin is Germany's capital and largest city, home to about 3.7 million people on 891 km². It grew from the twin trading towns of Berlin and Cölln, first recorded in 1237, and became the capital of Prussia and then of the German Empire. Divided by the Wall from 1961 to 1989, it is now known for its museums, nightlife and green space, which covers about a third of the city.

What to pack for Berlin

Summer days run about 15-25°C with hot spells, and winter hovers around -2 to 5°C with icy wind. Churches expect modest dress, so cover shoulders when visiting. Germany uses type C and F plugs at 230 V. Bring comfortable shoes for long distances and a refillable bottle for the city's free drinking fountains, which run from spring to autumn.
