About Limassol

Limassol, Lemesos in Greek, is the second-largest urban area in Cyprus, with about 199,000 people in the 2021 census, and its port is the largest on the island. It grew between the ancient kingdoms of Amathus and Kourion, and its name is traced to Nemesos, the town in the middle. Today glass towers rise along the seafront a few streets from a medieval castle and Ottoman lanes.

What to pack for Limassol

Average temperatures run from lows of about 11 degrees in January and February to highs near 34 degrees in August, while Troodos is much cooler. Pack a scarf or long layer for monasteries such as Kykkos, where shoulders and knees must be covered. Sockets are type G, the British three-pin plug, at 230 volts. People often forget sturdy shoes for the stream crossings on Troodos trails.
