About Málaga
Málaga is the capital of the Costa del Sol and Andalusia's second-largest city, with just under 600,000 people. Phoenicians founded Malaka around the 8th century BC, Romans and Moors followed, and the Catholic Monarchs took it in 1487. Picasso was born here in 1881, and in recent years a cluster of new museums has made it a city break in its own right.
What to pack for Málaga
Summers are hot, with afternoon highs around 30°C, so bring a hat, sunscreen and light clothes. Winters are mild, with days near 17°C and cool evenings, so a light jacket is enough. Rain falls mostly from October to April in short heavy bursts. Pack flat shoes with grip for the polished marble streets and the hill paths, plus covered shoulders for churches.
