About Paphos
Paphos is a town of about 37,300 people (2021 census) on the south-west coast of Cyprus, with about 100,000 in the wider district. It was founded as Nea Paphos at the end of the 4th century BC and served as the capital of Cyprus under the Ptolemies and Romans. Today it has two halves: Ktima, the old town on the ridge, and Kato Paphos by the harbour, where the ruins and most hotels are.
What to pack for Paphos
Average temperatures range from lows of about 9 degrees in January and February to highs of about 31 degrees in August. Pack a hat, strong sunscreen and a light layer that covers shoulders and knees for churches and monasteries. Cyprus uses the British type G three-pin plug at 230 V. The item people forget is water shoes for the pebble and rock beaches.
