About Positano

Positano is a small cliffside village on the Amalfi Coast in southern Italy, a near-vertical cascade of pastel houses tumbling down the mountainside to a dark-sand beach and the sea. Once a poor fishing community that emptied as its people emigrated, it was reborn as a glamorous resort in the twentieth century, celebrated for its light, its fashion and its beauty. Though home to only a few thousand residents, it is one of the most photographed towns in Italy.

What to pack for Positano

The most useful thing to pack for Positano is a pair of sturdy, broken-in shoes with good grip, as the whole town is stairs. Add sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses for the exposed beaches and paths, and a refillable water bottle. Bring swimwear and water shoes for the pebbly beaches, a scarf to cover shoulders in the church, and one smarter outfit for a glamorous dinner or sunset bar. A light layer suits cool evenings.
