About Rome
Rome is Italy's capital, with about 2.8 million people in the city and 4.3 million in the metro area. Legend says Romulus founded it in 753 BC. At its height, its empire stretched from Scotland to Mesopotamia. Today it surrounds the independent Vatican City, the world's smallest state, and is one of the world's five most visited cities.
What to pack for Rome
Bring comfortable shoes for the cobblestones. Cover shoulders and knees to enter churches and the Vatican, so carry a light scarf. Summer reaches 30-37°C, so pack breathable clothes, a hat, sunscreen and a refillable bottle for the nasoni. Spring and autumn are ideal. Italy uses type F and L plugs at 230 V.
