San Sebastián, Donostia in Basque, is a coastal city of about 190,000 people in the province of Gipuzkoa, 20 km from the French border. Queen Maria Christina made it the summer seat of the Spanish court in the late 19th century, and its Belle Époque promenade still curves around the bay of La Concha.
