About Seville
Seville is the capital of Andalusia, home to about 690,000 people and around 1.5 million in its metro area. It began as Roman Hispalis, flourished as Moorish Ishbiliya and became the monopoly port for trade with the Americas in the 16th century. The Cathedral, Alcázar and Archivo de Indias form a joint UNESCO site, and flamenco, Holy Week and the April Fair define its culture.
What to pack for Seville
July and August often pass 40°C, so pack light breathable clothes, a sunhat, sun cream and a refillable water bottle. Spring and autumn are warm by day but cooler at night, so bring a light jacket. Winters are mild but damp, and old houses can be chilly inside. Comfortable shoes are essential on cobbled lanes, and cover shoulders and knees for the Cathedral and other churches.
