About Tulum

Tulum town had 33,374 people in 2020 and has been the seat of its own municipality since 2008. It grew from Santo Kaaj Tulum, a village founded around 1870 by the Maya priestess María Uicab, next to a walled Maya port that peaked between the 13th and 15th centuries. Named a Pueblo Mágico in 2015, it is known for cliff-top ruins, cenotes and a jungle beach road.
