About Valencia
Valencia is Spain's third-largest city, with about 830,000 people, and capital of the Comunitat Valenciana. The Romans founded Valentia in 138 BC, the Moors ruled it for five centuries, and Jaume I took it in 1238. Its 15th-century golden age left the Lonja and the cathedral, while the City of Arts and Sciences now fills the old bed of the Turia river.
What to pack for Valencia
Bring light clothes and strong sunscreen from May to October, as summers are hot and very humid. A light jacket is enough for most winter days, though evenings can be cool and damp. Pack swimwear for the beaches, comfortable shoes for the cobbled old town and a cover-up for church visits. In autumn add an umbrella, as heavy downpours can arrive suddenly.
